Tanzania is actively seeking financial assistance from China to support various development projects. Recently, the country signed a memorandum of understanding with China National Aero Technology International Corporation for a $200 million soft loan. This loan will fund the construction of the Kidunda dam, which aims to enhance water supply and generate 20 MW of hydroelectric power for Dar es Salaam.
Additionally, during a state visit by Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan to China, the two nations signed several agreements, including a draft loan for the Zanzibar International Airport Terminal II project, valued at approximately $56.72 million. This visit also resulted in China granting Tanzania around $13.8 million for economic and technical cooperation.
These agreements are part of broader efforts to strengthen the bilateral relationship, with China being a major source of foreign direct investment in Tanzania, currently amounting to $9.6 billion across 1,098 projects.
