The Inspector General of Police in Uganda has suspended all rallies and mobilization activities of the National Unity Platform (NUP), led by Robert Kyagulanyi, also known as Bobi Wine. This decision was taken due to repeated breaches of guidelines during their rallies, including incidents of violence, public disorder, and the promotion of sectarianism. Specific events cited include vandalism and a fatal accident in Hoima City during NUP activities.
The police accused Bobi Wine and NUP supporters of making inflammatory and sectarian remarks, particularly in Luweero District, which were perceived as incitements against the government. The authorities emphasized their commitment to maintaining public order and preventing potential civil unrest.
Despite this suspension, NUP has stated their intent to continue their mobilization efforts, indicating plans to unveil their next phase of activities soon. The party views the suspension as a reaction to their growing influence and support across the country.
