Mexico elects Claudia Sheinbum as its President with over 60% support.

Claudia Sheinbaum has been elected as the first female president of Mexico. In the general elections held on June 2, 2024, Sheinbaum secured between 58% and 60% of the vote, significantly leading over her main rival, Xóchitl Gálvez. This result marks a historic moment as Sheinbaum becomes not only the first woman but also the first Jewish individual to hold the presidency in Mexico. She will officially take office on October 1, 2024, succeeding Andrés Manuel López Obrador.

Claudia Sheinbaum has served as the Mayor of Mexico City and she’s known for her scientific background and her role in the political party Morena, founded by current President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO). Her election has marked her as the first female president of Mexico, representing a major step forward in gender equality in Mexican politics.
