William Ruto Holds Talks With Uhuru Kenyatta Over Retirement Benefits conflicts.

President William Ruto and former President Uhuru Kenyatta recently held discussions concerning Uhuru’s retirement benefits. The talks are part of ongoing efforts to resolve a dispute over the conditions tied to these benefits. According to Kenyan law, a retired president is not entitled to retirement benefits if they hold any political office. Uhuru Kenyatta, currently the chairman of the Azimio One Kenya Coalition Council, has been active in politics, which complicates his eligibility for the full benefits package.

Despite the legal stipulations, Uhuru has received some benefits, including a monthly pension of approximately Ksh1.32 million and a lump sum payment of Ksh39.6 million.

However, a significant portion of his benefits, amounting to Ksh655 million, remains in contention due to his political involvement.

In these discussions, Uhuru indicated his willingness to meet Ruto and offer counsel if invited, signaling a readiness to move beyond past conflicts. This development is crucial as it could influence the political landscape, particularly regarding the alignment within the Mt. Kenya region and the broader opposition strategies.
