High Court has suspended decision by Police to ban protests in Nairobi CBD

The High Court in Nairobi has suspended the police decision to ban protests in the city’s Central Business District (CBD). This ruling came amidst ongoing demonstrations sparked by youths to the Finance Bill 2024 and broader discontent with the government.

The protests have seen significant clashes between police and demonstrators, with incidents of teargas being used to disperse crowds, barricaded roads, and several arrests and injuries reported.

The court’s suspension of the ban allows protesters to continue their activities within the CBD under legal protection.
