Bishop Johanna, a controversial Akorino cleric known for his unconventional exorcism practices, passed away on August 8, 2024.
His death followed a period of severe illness, reportedly caused by meningitis. Johanna gained widespread attention earlier this year when a video of him performing an exorcism went viral, sparking outrage and accusations of inappropriate conduct.
The video showed Johanna applying anointing oil to a woman’s torso and genital area during the exorcism, actions that many interpreted as crossing ethical boundaries.
Johanna defended his methods, claiming that he was following divine instructions to help a woman who sought his help to resolve her marital issues, which she believed were caused by witchcraft.
Despite the criticism, his wife and some followers stood by him, asserting that his actions were misunderstood and rooted in his spiritual calling.
Following his death, many Kenyans expressed mixed feelings, with some mourning his passing and others remaining critical of his controversial practices.
