Raila Odinga recently revealed that former President Uhuru Kenyatta played a significant role in initiating talks with President William Ruto concerning the Gen Z protests in Kenya.
According to Raila, Uhuru reached out to him during a period of national unrest, urging him to engage in dialogue with Ruto to address the concerns raised by the youth.
Raila emphasized that the discussions were not about forming a coalition government but rather about finding solutions to the issues affecting the country, particularly those raised by the younger generation.
Uhuru’s intervention was motivated by a desire to prevent further chaos and ensure that the situation did not escalate. He reportedly stressed the importance of resolving these matters quickly to avoid widespread disruption.
Following Uhuru’s advice, Raila agreed to meet with Ruto, resulting in what Raila described as a necessary dialogue among Kenyans to tackle the nation’s pressing challenges. These discussions also align with previous efforts by Uhuru to mediate between the two leaders, particularly in the context of preventing mass protests that could destabilize the nation further.
