The Kitengela brothers, Jamil and Aslam Longtone, along with activist Bob Njagi, were abducted on August 19, 2024, and held for 30 days, during which they endured severe torture and starvation. Upon their release on September 20, 2024, they were given KSh 300 by their captors, believed to be police officers, for bus fare. The brothers were blindfolded, returned their phones, and warned not to speak about their ordeal. Their abduction had drawn significant attention, partly due to their participation in protests against the now-withdrawn Finance Bill 2024.
