Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has issued a stern warning to President William Ruto amid rumors of an impeachment plot. Gachagua, addressing his concerns at a church service in Thika, cautioned that any attempt to betray him could cost Ruto the trust of the Mt. Kenya region. He emphasized that Mt. Kenya voters are unforgiving of betrayal, urging Ruto to maintain their alliance to avoid damaging his credibility.
The impeachment discussions have been fueled by reports of some MPs allegedly being bribed to support such a motion. Gachagua’s allies, including Cleophas Malala and other Mt. Kenya leaders, have echoed his concerns, warning that if the impeachment moves forward, it could have severe political consequences for Ruto, potentially undermining his leadership and future electoral success.
While Gachagua insists he is being targeted due to political infighting within the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA), his opponents dismiss these claims as attempts to garner sympathy.
