Mwengi Mutuse, the Kibwezi West MP, has gained attention for spearheading an impeachment motion against Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua in October 2024. He cited various grounds for impeachment, including Gachagua’s alleged violation of the constitution, incitement, and corruption. Mutuse, a first-term MP elected in 2022 under the Maendeleo Chap Chap party, played a significant role in regional politics, especially in the Ukambani area during the 2022 elections.Before entering politics as an MP, Mutuse served as the Chief of Staff in the Machakos County government from 2013 to 2022 and worked as a communications officer in President Mwai Kibaki’s government. He holds a Bachelor and Master of Laws (LL.B and LL.M) from the University of Nairobi and is a member of the Law Society of Kenya.
