Wajir Governor Ahmed Abdullahi has been elected the new chairperson of the Council of Governors (CoG), replacing Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru. The election took place on October 7, 2024, during an official meeting of county governors. Abdullahi, who had previously served as the deputy chair, succeeded Waiguru after her term as CoG chair ended. This position, while largely ceremonial, is crucial in representing the collective voice of county governments in Kenya. Other contenders in the race included Nyeri’s Mutahi Kahiga as Deputy COG, Tharaka Nithi’s Muthomi Njuki, Kajiado’s Joseph Ole Lenku, and Nairobi’s Johnson Sakaja.
