NTSA outlines 6 Mistakes Car Owners Make When Transferring Vehicle Ownership

The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has highlighted several common mistakes that Kenyans make when transferring vehicle ownership. These errors can cause delays or complications in the process, and NTSA advises motorists to be extra careful when submitting their documentation. The most frequent mistakes include:

1. Submitting the wrong logbook – Some motorists accidentally submit logbooks for vehicles they do not own or that differ from the one being transferred.

2. Failing to submit a scanned colored copy of the logbook – Some drivers send documents that are unclear, defaced, or in black and white, making them unreadable.

3. Uploading unrelated documents – Examples include payment invoices, blank papers, or even newspaper cuttings, rather than the required scanned logbook.

4. Capturing the wrong details for the new owner – Some motorists mistakenly fill in the details of the current owner instead of the buyer.

5. Using defaced logbooks – A logbook that is damaged or hard to read can cause delays.6. Not double-checking the documents before submission – Errors in the provided information and documents can slow down the transfer process.

To avoid these issues, NTSA encourages users to carefully review all documents before submitting and to use the E-Citizen platform, which typically processes transfers within three working days.
