Ketraco is set to disclose the details of a Sh96 billion deal with Adani Group.

KETRACO (Kenya Electricity Transmission Company Limited) has signed a major deal worth Sh95.7 billion with India’s Adani Group. The agreement, which spans 30 years, involves the construction and operation of key electricity transmission lines and substations across Kenya. These include the 208 km Gilgil-Thika-Malaa-Konza line, among others. The Adani Group, through its subsidiary Adani Energy Solutions, will finance the project through a mix of debt and equity and will manage the infrastructure before eventually transferring it to KETRACO.

This public-private partnership (PPP) aims to address Kenya’s aging power transmission infrastructure, which has led to frequent outages. By involving private entities like Adani, the government hopes to ensure long-term sustainability and expand power access without direct financial expenditure from the government. The project is expected to bolster energy infrastructure critical to supporting Kenya’s growing economy.
