Ex Peruvian President Alejandro Toledo was sentenced to 20 years and six months in prison for corruption. He was found guilty of accepting $35 million in bribes from the Brazilian construction giant Odebrecht, in exchange for favoring the company in a highway construction contract in southern Peru. This case is part of a wider scandal involving Odebrecht’s widespread bribery across Latin America. Toledo, who served as president from 2001 to 2006, was extradited from the U.S. earlier this year to face trial.
