UN REPORT ON HAITI

The latest UN report on Haiti highlights the escalating humanitarian crisis. Armed gang violence has intensified especially in port-au-prince and Artibonite region where civilians face increasing danger. Over 6250 people were displaced in October alone with homes burned and civilians killed. Access to essential services like food, shelter and healthcare particularly for women and children is severely limited.

The report stated that over 5.5 million people including 3 million childrens require humanitarian assistance. Armed gangs control large areas and childrens are being recruited in these groups, Cholera has resurfaced, compounding the crisis. International aids are hindered by blockages and violence and less than 10% fund required for 2024 have been secured.

The UN is calling for international action for both in terms of aids and security intervention to prevent the situation from becoming irreversible.
