Kithure Kindiki has been nominated by President William Ruto to become Kenya’s next Deputy President following the impeachment of Rigathi Gachagua. The nomination was officially communicated to the National Assembly by Speaker Moses Wetang’ula. MPs are now expected to vote on the nomination, though no two-thirds majority is required for approval. Once confirmed, Kindiki will be sworn into office.Kindiki has been serving as the Interior Cabinet Secretary and has a history in law and politics, previously serving as Senator for Tharaka Nithi for two terms. He was also a significant figure in Ruto’s 2022 campaign but was passed over for Gachagua as the running mate.
