Russia and Belarus launch joint nuclear strike drills.

Russia and Belarus have recently conducted joint nuclear strike drills amid ongoing tensions with the West over the conflict in Ukraine. Russia initiated these drills as a response to what it described as provocative statements from Western officials regarding deeper involvement in the Ukraine war. The drills are designed to test the readiness of personnel and equipment for deploying non-strategic nuclear weapon.

Following Russia’s announcement, Belarus began its own exercises, involving missiles and warplanes capable of carrying tactical nuclear weapons. This move aligns with Belarus’ agreement to host Russian tactical nuclear warheads on its territory, a decision made last year amid escalating tensions. These drills involve Iskander missiles and Su-25 fighter jets, which are part of a broader effort to enhance the preparedness of their forces.

These activities are seen as a form of nuclear signaling by Russia and Belarus, aiming to deter Western military support for Ukraine by demonstrating their nuclear capabilities and readiness.
