Over the weekend, a bomb blast in Gwoza, Borno State, resulted in significant casualties. The explosion occurred on the Pulka-Firgi road when a commercial vehicle carrying farmers ran over an improvised explosive device (IED) planted by Boko Haram terrorists. Initial reports indicated that seven people died on the spot, and several others were severely injured. Tragically, the death toll has since risen to 13 as more of the injured succumbed to their wounds
Boko Haram and ISWAP have increasingly resorted to using IEDs as a primary tactic due to the Nigerian military’s ongoing efforts to weaken and disrupt their operations. These devices, often locally made, have caused numerous civilian casualties in the region, highlighting the persistent threat posed by these insurgent groups.
