MP’s Arrested By DCI Officers For Allegations Of Funding Protestors To Loot And Cause Mayhem.

Two Kenyan Members of Parliament, James Mwangi Gakuya (Embakasi North) and Benjamin Mwangi Gathiru (Embakasi Central), have been accused of financing criminal activities during the Gen Z protests in Nairobi.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) alleged that the MPs arranged and funded individuals who infiltrated youth-led protests to incite violence, loot businesses, and cause general mayhem.

The MPs were apprehended outside Parliament on July 30, 2024, but subsequently secured court orders preventing their arrest and prosecution.

They argued that the allegations were politically motivated due to their association with Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. The High Court has restrained the DCI and other agencies from arresting them until a further hearing scheduled for September 17, 2024.
