Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua yesterday on interview with CITIZEN TV made a public statement recognizing former President Uhuru Kenyatta as the undisputed leader of the Mt. Kenya region.
Gachagua expressed regret for how he and the Mt. Kenya community treated Uhuru during the 2022 elections when they rejected his advice to support Raila Odinga. Gachagua admitted that they were unfair in their criticism and acknowledged that Uhuru’s only fault was endorsing Raila as a suitable candidate.
In a display of reconciliation, Gachagua reached out to Uhuru to apologize on behalf of the Mt. Kenya community. He emphasized that the region traditionally respects the authority of its leader and does not go back on such decisions. Gachagua also pointed out that President William Ruto’s recent embrace of Raila Odinga further validated Uhuru’s original stance.
HAdditionally, Gachagua highlighted a renewed commitment within the Mt. Kenya community to never again allow internal divisions, a significant point considering the past political conflicts in the region.
