President William Ruto responded to the criticism regarding the KSh 200 million expenditure on a private jet for his trip to the United States by emphasizing the practical and security reasons behind the decision. He claimed that using a chartered luxury jet was actually more cost-effective and appropriate for his position compared to flying commercially with Kenya Airways

Ruto pointed out that the logistical and security demands of a state visit necessitated the use of a private jet. He argued that the private jet, despite its high cost, provided a more secure and practical solution given the duration of the flight and the need to maintain the dignity and security of his office

The decision was defended by figures like Francis Atwoli, who emphasized that high-ranking officials must conduct themselves in a manner befitting their status and that it would be inappropriate for a president to fly on a regular commercial flight due to security and practical reasons

However, Ruto’s response did not quell all the criticism. Detractors pointed out the apparent inconsistency between his government’s fiscal policies, which include increased taxation and calls for austerity, and the lavish expenditure on the private jet.

Later, 30th may 2024 during the National Prayer breakfast William Ruto said that the government of Kenya used less than 10 millions of kenya shillings to his state visit to US.
