US Congressmen Pile Pressure on Biden to Abort Kenya Haiti Mission

Several U.S. congressmen, primarily from the Republican party, are pressuring President Biden to halt the funding and support for Kenya’s mission in Haiti. They have raised concerns about the transparency and cost of the mission. Specifically, House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Michael McCaul and Senate Foreign Relations Committee Ranking Member James Risch have blocked further funding, demanding more details on the mission’s structure and expenditures. They have highlighted the recent court ruling in Kenya that declared the mission unconstitutional as a significant concern.

President Biden, however, has pledged substantial support for the mission, emphasizing its importance in maintaining regional stability without deploying American troops directly. The U.S. has already committed $300 million for the mission and an additional $60 million for equipment assistance.
