Senators decline to suspend Gachagua’s impeachment.

The Kenyan Senate has declined to suspend the impeachment hearing of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, which stems from multiple charges including allegations of corruption and undermining President William Ruto. Gachagua’s legal team had sought to halt the proceedings, arguing for more time to prepare, but courts rejected the request.

Following the National Assembly’s impeachment vote, which overwhelmingly supported his ouster, Gachagua’s case was moved to the Senate. The Senate initially debated forming a special committee to handle the impeachment process, but this was blocked, pushing the matter to a full plenary hearing. The Senate is set to review the charges and vote on whether to uphold the impeachment.
