Martha Karua has announced her departure from the Azimio la Umoja coalition, which has highlighted significant cracks within the alliance. Her departure is primarily driven by dissatisfaction with the coalition’s handling of key issues affecting the Mount Kenya region, including the high cost of living and political interference in the Jubilee Party by the ruling Kenya Kwanza administration. Karua, along with other Mount Kenya leaders, has demanded that these issues be addressed as a prerequisite for supporting any bipartisan talks.
Additionally, Martha Karua has called for the complete dissolution of President William Ruto’s government, criticizing recent cabinet changes as insufficient to address the ongoing political and social challenges in Kenya. She emphasized that the recent dismissals and reappointments have not led to meaningful change and continue to oversee actions against protestors and journalists.
