KNEC Issues Update on KCSE & KPSEA; Exam Paper Features Explained

The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has announced updates for the 2024 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) and Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) exams.

These changes aim to enhance exam integrity and address issues like impersonation and cheating.Key features include:

1. Personalized Exam Papers: Each exam paper will bear the candidate’s name, index number, and school details. This aims to reduce impersonation and trace cheating back to individuals rather than penalizing entire schools. Candidates will no longer be able to sit for subjects they are not registered for, and no extra papers will be printed to prevent misuse.

2. Double Collection System: Exam papers for morning and afternoon sessions will be packed separately and collected twice a day to prevent premature access to the papers.

3. Changes for Private Candidates: For the first time, private candidates will sit for their theory exams at county headquarters rather than sub-county locations, providing more centralized exam centers.

These reforms aim to increase transparency and accountability during the national exams, which start in late October 2024.
