The Sudanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs has strongly condemned the Kenyan government for hosting an event where a political agreement was signed by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), branding the move as a violation of international law and a hostile act against Sudan.
In a press statement issued on Tuesday, the Ministry accused Kenya of disregarding its obligations under international law, including the United Nations Charter, the Constitutive Act of the African Union, and the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide. The statement asserted that Kenya’s facilitation of the agreement, involving the RSF and affiliated groups, amounted to supporting a militia responsible for ongoing acts of genocide in Sudan.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs regrets the Kenyan government’s disregard for its obligations under international law by hosting the event of signing a so-called ‘political agreement’ between the terrorist Janjaweed militia and its affiliated individuals and groups,” the statement read.
The Ministry argued that the objective of the agreement was to establish a parallel government on Sudanese territory, a move it described as a threat to Sudan’s sovereignty and an interference in its internal affairs. The statement labeled the event as a “clear breach” of international agreements and principles, warning that it promoted the dismembering of African states.
Furthermore, Sudan accused Kenya of endorsing and enabling the RSF’s alleged crimes, which include genocide, ethnic massacres, attacks on internally displaced persons (IDP) camps, and sexual violence. The Ministry stated that by allowing the RSF to conduct political and propaganda activities, Kenya had demonstrated complicity in these crimes.
“This action by the Kenyan government not only violates the principles of good neighborliness but also contravenes Kenya’s previous commitments not to allow hostile activities against Sudan to be carried out on its soil. It is, therefore, tantamount to an act of hostility against the entire Sudanese people,” the statement added.
Despite these developments, the Sudanese government insisted that the situation on the ground remained unchanged. The statement reaffirmed that the Sudanese Armed Forces, backed by joint forces and the people of Sudan, were determined to reclaim all territory occupied by the RSF and their foreign allies. The Ministry also urged the international community to condemn Kenya’s actions and warned that Sudan would take “all necessary measures” to counter this development and protect its territorial integrity. The press statement underscores escalating tensions between Sudan and Kenya, raising concerns about further diplomatic rifts within the region.
