Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua Denies All 11 Charges Against Him During Senate Hearing.

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has denied all 11 charges against him during his impeachment hearings in the Senate. The charges include gross violations of the Constitution, undermining the President, and interfering with judicial independence. Gachagua firmly rejected allegations such as his involvement in a KEMSA mosquito net tender and irregular payments for renovations and event management. He defended his actions as being within legal boundaries, particularly concerning a complaint against a judge and upgrades for a state visit by King Charles III.

His impeachment, which was initially passed by the National Assembly, now rests with the Senate, which will decide whether to uphold the charges. If two-thirds of the senators vote in favor, Gachagua could be removed from office.
